India and Pakistan travel tips

Anthony Mitchell has some advice for travelers in India and Pakistan. Some of the things I learned were things most of us would never think of:

In some parts of India, particularly Kolkata (formerly Calcutta), if a car or bus hits a pedestrian, cyclist or animal, passersby might assault the driver and possibly the passengers as well. Buses that are involved in accidents might be set alight. Never be in a vehicle that hits a cow in India.
What do you do if the bus you're in hits a cow? Run?

Travel advisory for people traveling to the USA: If you are hit by a reckless driver while crossing a street, don't get glued to the car window.

In some parts of the USA, particularly North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, Georgia, California, New York, Washington, or in fact, any state in the USA, if a car hits a pedestrian, the driver will speed up and escape the scene leaving the injured to die. In one case a driver drove her car home and into her garage with the hit pedestrian stuck on her car window.

AA has some more advice for travelers in USA. Some of the things you would never think of that happen in the USA:

That a middle school teacher has sex with her 11 year old student (and gets pregnant). That a mother will hack off the arms of her 1 year old daughter and let her bleed to death. That a mother will drown her 5 kids in a bath tub. The list goes on. You can only shake your head in disbelief.

Here are some things that should not surprise you about Indians:

There are 3.22 million Indians in America.
Indians are the wealthiest among all ethnic groups in America, including whites.
38 per cent of doctors in America are Indians.
12 per cent of scientists in America are Indians.
36 per cent of NASA employees are Indians.
34 per cent of Microsoft employees are Indians
28 per cent of IBM employees are Indians.
The Co-founder of Sun Microsystems is an Indian.
The Creator of Pentium Chip is an Indian.
The founder and creator of Hotmail is an Indian.
The inventor of the 64-chip architecture is an Indian.
Albert Einstein said: We owe a lot to the Indians, who taught us how to count, without which no worthwhile scientific discovery could have been made.

Last but not least, India never invaded any country in her last 10000 years of history.

Wow, thanks for all the stats AA. I am unsure how this will be any benefit for me if I am involved in a pedestrian accident while traveling in India. Do you have any information on that topic?
