Princess Cruises Trouble
Here's a nasty story about Princess Cruises dumping some vacationer's luggage into the ocean and then not compensating them properly (and only compensating them after stalling for a few months). The Miami Heral travel trouble shooter says this is why you buy travel insurance; I say this is why you don't use Princess.

It just amazes me when comsumers themselfs side with big buisness until it hits them personally. To say to people to purchase insurance(another deceptive buisness)when it was the cruise company fault!!!!!
Posted by: jennie at June 28, 2005 2:04 AMSINCE THE SALE TO CARNIVAL PRINCESS CRUISES WENT STRAIGHT DOWN HILL IN SERVICE AND FRIENDLINESS WHICH HAD ALWAYS BEEN THEIR DRAW FOR US... WE HAVE RIDDEN THE LINE EVERYWHERE AND WERE REMEMBERED BY THEIR EMPLOYEES WHO MOVED FROM SHIP TO SHIP.. AFTER THE SALE$()&yh#(r)(hf(#&h!!! LAST CRUISE WITH THEM TOLD US ALL... THEY ARE NO BETTER THAN CARNIVAL. SADLY, GOOD BYE TO WHAT WAS A GOOD CRUISE LINE. HARVEY FROM CT
Posted by: harvey at June 28, 2005 9:16 AMCelebrity Cruise Lines is the way to go. Top service; sophisticated & BEAUTIFUL ship; 11+ levels; celan; excellent food.
Posted by: susan at June 28, 2005 10:21 AMI'm saddened to hear such negative comments about Princess. I used to work for them as reservation agent and can't believe that they've gone downhill as described. I plan to cruise in December with Princess, but I'm a little worried now. Maybe I should reconsider.
Switch to Holland America now! Much better service, facilities and food at the same price.
Posted by: steve at June 29, 2005 2:52 AMI just gotback from Alasks on NCL and was suuprised at how well it went. I still hate the service charge. I'd rather they set the full price upfront than screw the help out of a tip.

Posted by: don at June 29, 2005 3:31 AMMy dream has always been to go on a Caribean cruise, I grew up in Colombia South America and flew to many countries, but I never got that cruise. I guess I won't go on Princess, I value my luggage and possessions too much. That is really just wrong what they did!! Pounciekitten
Posted by: Pounciekitten at June 30, 2005 10:24 PMWe went on a Princess cruise to Alaska in mid June. It was a great cruise, but we liked Royal Carribean better as far as food, service, friendleness, and facilities.
Posted by: KDG at July 5, 2005 3:52 AMsterling travel are liars about the ability to change cabins with LOUIS cruise line. The Sapphire cruise ship is a 37 year old bucket of bolts, the a/c works in only parts if the ship, and at night the smell of sewage is terrable. The food is the same poor quality served every day. The only good thing I can say about the food is the portions are small. Imagine a senior citizen that could not crawl into the top bunk. They did not care....
Posted by: Russ at August 3, 2005 1:53 AMI had an experience where my luggage got dropped in the ocean but it was by Royal Carribean at dockside as it was being loaded onto the ship at the start of the 13 night cruise several years ago...it was not delivered to my stateroom until after the second seating dinner..and at 11pm I returned to my stateroom and there it was..soping wet..all the items were dripping!I called the purser[front desk]they told me to call housekeeping..and that someone would come and collect it in the morning...that they were aware of it happening and when asked why no explanation they said they waited for me to call and report it...and in the morning, indeed someone came and took my whole suitcase and all the wet clothing and my address book..etc,and it was away for a few days[the suitcase itself]The clothes were delivered back that evening all washed and pressed and on hangers..and I was informed that I was to get free laundry service the whole cruise and many apologies,as well as wine and chocolate covered strawberrys, and upgrades throughout the cruise..as I was already single in a deluxe outside..and the ship was full so I could not be moved..I was given services that the suites received...and I enjoyed them..I learned another person also had his luggage get wet too..same as me..and he too was getting the same treatment.I have done 36 cruises and prefer to go single outside..I like Holland America,Cunard,Norweigian Cruise Line,Princess[and yes,I read the above letters..and they have slipped in my book],Costa.
Posted by: charles at November 19, 2005 11:52 AMMy wife and I have been on ten cruises but have never cruised with Princess. We are leaving on a Princess cruise on January 7th out of Galveston for 7 days. I have learned you can have good and bad cruises, no matter who you sail. For example, four of our cruises were on Carnival and four were on RCCL. The best individual cruise (believe it or not) was on the Imagination from Carnival but the worst was also Carinival. The Imagination was brand new and we took a balcony suite which we rarely do. Most of the time its in the lower sections. I learned the employees with tenure can tranfer to the newest ships. So, that is probably why we had such a good cruise on the Imagination out of Miami. If the tenured employees moved from Carnival to Princess the standards may have fallen.
RCCL was OK, but sort of dull.
If the Princess is better than any of these I will be pleased. Princess is more money but everyone says they are better. If not, its on with the search for a better cruise!
Posted by: Rick at November 28, 2005 6:16 AMMy i2 th cuise was recently on the Grand Princess from Galveston over Christmas 2005. But it will be my last The captain/company made the terrible decision to go to Cozumel even though they knew the ship did not have enough power to get back to Galveston on time. Therefore hundreds of us missed flights and had to stay over. Also the disembarkation at Galveston was horrible with both the cruise and the local port police terrible on getting us on buses to the airport. How a company can prepare 10000 meals a day with such great efficiency and then eject us from the ship with such great confusion is a mystery. The last 24 hours of the criuse was wasted and the communication from the staff was nearly non existent. Never again .
Posted by: cal at January 5, 2006 12:08 AMI have cruised RCCL, Carnival and Disney. RCCL has been the best so far. Our Carnival trip was really fun but the ship was a little older and not as nice as the RCCL ships that we have been on. The Disney ship was nice but very crowded mainly because the corridors seemed to small, the pools were not that great and the food was not as good as either of the others. When it all comes down to it, your cruise (any cruise) is really only as good as you make it (aside from the problems that can occur). As far as the insurance goes there is no reason you should have to have it incase your luggage goes overboard, but I will always purchase it for piece of mind because anything can happen. Good luck and good sailing
Posted by: Steve at February 4, 2006 6:47 AMI have traveled on both RCCL and Carnival. Carnival doesn't have all the glam of RC but I prefer Carnival for the very relaxed atmosphere and the larger cabins. Yes the age of the ship does make a difference on the experience of the staff. I must admit on the older ships I lower my expectations. I usually travel alone and Carnival has always made me feel secure. The RC staff were a bit uncaring to me, it took them 2 days to fix the lock on my balcony. The said they were going to have it fixed in a few hours.NOT! I buy insurance for reasons like that. Medical, luggage and trip delay.
Posted by: Sheila at February 24, 2006 1:12 AMRCCL is the nicest friendliest I've ever had the pleasure to travel on.We own many conos all over the world and I still will go on another cruise.Thier Great !!!
Posted by: greg at March 4, 2006 10:19 AMI PERSONALLY LIKE THE FOLLOWING CRUISE LINE.
BUT I THINK I AM SPOILED
OCEANIA CRUISES
SILVER SEAS
SEABOURNE CRUISES
WINDSTAR CRUISES..LARGE SAIL BOATS
I'm not surpriced from the negative comments,I work for them and believed or not if some of you knew what I know-you wouldn't go on cruise even for free...
