Be wary of cruise line advertisements

The San Francisco Chronicle has a very interesting article on cruise lines and advertising claims that just don't add up. For example Carnival Cruise Line advertises that its cabins are bigger than any other cruise line's cabins.

"All other cruise lines," apparently, does not include Princess, Disney, Celebrity, Cunard, Holland America, Crystal, Radisson Seven Seas and Silversea, among others.

According to the article cruise goers should be on the look out for ocean view cabins that are completely obstructed, misleading names (Hispaniola instead of Haiti), and digitally altered (enhanced) photos.

The witty conclusion is that cruisers should "Study up, be skeptical and ask questions. Cruise vacations are about escaping reality, but often the ads are doing the same."

Booking a vacation to "Hispaniola" should be your first clue something's wrong. They haven't used that name in years.

hi, my question is :Do cruise ships go to St. croix. They used to but stopped a couple of years ago because it was not safe. Thanks

Not sure what your question is, Mike, but I took a cruise on the Golden Princess, the sister ship of the Grand Princess, and I thought it was wonderful. Things I particularly enjoyed: the five swimming pools, the 24-hour buffet, the constant choice of activities onboard (described in a newsletter delivered to our room the night before each day), and the balcony mini-suite we had booked.

I'd be happy to answer any specific questions you might have--post them here or email me if you like.

Check out the add on the right - second from the bottom, "Celebrity Cruise Deals". It offers free shore excursions... Best prices guaranteed!
Wow! If it's free and it's also the best price, how can we go wrong with this one dear?

Luxury Lines: Seabourn Cruises and SeaDream Yacht Club both sail to St. Croix.

Haven't ever taken a cruise and in Aug 2008 my son has decided on a destination wedding and they have booked a trip with Carnival. To the Bahamas. As a first timer what can you tell me to expect and what to watch out for.
