Do you want to suggest any travel magazines?

When I moved into my new office, I found an old copy of Traveler which had some interesting information on very upscale travel destinations. I don't actually subscribe to any travel magazines, but recently I've been considering it.

I found a list of travel magazine subscription discounts and looked to see if any might help me keep this blog interesting for you. I think I might get some good ideas from Beautiful Itineraries which has a focus on Italy. Regular readers may recall that I blog about Italy whenever I'm out of ideas because I want to retire there.

I don't talk much about business travel on this blog, so Business Traveler might help me get a new category of good information for you.

Just going from reputation, National Geographic Traveler and Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel should give me some good ideas for this site.

What are your favorite travel magazines?

I like National Geographic Adventurer. It's vacations are out of the way adventures, not touristy hot spots that can make it hard to feel like you're on vacation. It's a great blend of culture, travel and adventure.

Absolutely the best one in the UK is Wanderlust. Very well written, lots of pictures but most importantly; clear facts about the countries, getting there and useful travel tips. They also run a photography competition and annual travel awards. See - http://www.wanderlust.co.uk

I like Frommer's Budget Travel and Nat'l Geographic Traveler. I can handle some of Conde Nast Traveler but the whole "aspirational travel" woo-woo stuff, some of which is not grounded in any kind of budgetary reality, really turns me off. "Atmospheric" pieces are fun, but most of the time I do want useful information about going to a place, not just mind candy.

Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel is by far the most interesting. At $12.00 for a years subscription,I give it to all my friends.

I used to like National Geographic Traveler. Their photos used to be great and the stories used to be interesting. However, in the last few years, I've been extremly disappointed...I skim it and then never go back to read it thereafter. Why? For these reasons:
-- pictures are too small to get any details.
-- the magazine style is too slick/sleek (i.e.,ugly)
-- places to visit are places I have absolutely
ZERO interest in going to
-- I am more interested in travel for regular people (not rich people and not college student travel)
-- I want to know about SAFE places to go, not explore Indonesia while it is a terrorist haven
-- People want to go to familiar places - more stories on Paris, London, Rome, but they are obsessed with the "unique experience" like an ice igloo in Norway. Forget it!

I recommend Budget Travel and Travel & Leisure.
One for something I can afford and the other for places I can dream about.

p.s. I just saw a book in Barnes & Noble about a couple who retired in Rome. it was quite interesting and made me think about trying to look for a cheap place in Europe.

I like Texas Highways. Of course, I live in Texas. Texas Highways usually highlights several different areas of the state to visit. They usually have a "Weekend Special" type of vacation. They also have beautiful pictures.

P.S..I DO NOT recommend time share for the average person!!The contract is almost impossible to get out of do to our wonderful law makers, the trade factor is usually at a higher price than you would pay if you do a little research.seems most people dont want to stay 1 place all week. there are probably more for sale by individuals than by the industry.i have 2,1 in va beach va and 1 in williamsburg va. and they have been for sale for 3 years without a single offer.both are great places at a great week,va beach in july and williamsburg in nov.i paid 1 realtor $300.00 to sell 1 and he listed it for 1 yr and i never heard from him again.they are both in the hands of another realtor for $1300.00 until they are sold and that has been 2 years and i havent heard from him [i called him once and got his office help after 2 days of calling and was told no sales yet.whats this got to do with suggesting travel magazines, dang if i know but i feel better!!!!
