Phuket recovering from the tsunami

My brother-in-law and his wife went to Phuket for their honeymoon and loved it so Phuket is on my list of places to visit. Phuket was devastated by the Tsunami, but is now back in business (two friends of mine just returned).

My friends stayed in a small hotel near Patong Beach, but honeymooners might opt for a resort instead. Groups of 10 traveling for a week or more might be interested in this Phuket villa rental because it has a private beachfront in Rawai. I've never traveled with a large group before, but it sure sounds like fun!

I've also never stayed in a true luxury villa, with a weight room, 2 full-time staff, a Koi pond (I have no idea what a Koi pond is, but it must be cool), a lotus pond, and a waterfall entrance (I can imagine how cool that must be).

And just one more thing before I get back to Phuket in general: photos of the villa. My wife says we have to put a week's stay there on our dream list. Sounds good to me!

Anyway, back to Phuket and a few recommendations. Hideaway Day Spa near Surin Beach is a relaxing spa in the middle of the woods with natural aromatic treatments. Ban Rim Pa is a great restaurant with a good wine list. Wat Chalong is the biggest temple in Phuket. Patong is where you go to party all night. Patong is also very commercial so I wouldn't spend my entire vacation there.

I assume PHUKET is not pronounced the way it would probably sound in English.

Haven't bee there myself, although I have been to Koh Samui and can reccomend that to you all.

By the way In Thai language any place wth a 'Ph' at the beginning is pronounced as we prnounce 'P'.
Therefore 'Phuket' would be pronounced "Pookett".

I just got back two weeks ago from Phuket. I was there for Sangkrom (the old Thai New Year). It was fantastic if you like to get wet and have fun. To get away from Patong try Karon or Kata Beaches. They are wonderful. And only a 10 minute or so ride from Patong.

I was in Phuket a couple of years ago. Stayed in patong beach. Loved it. rented a jeep and did some diving. I recommend it for a good time.
