Where is your vacation paradise?

55 million years ago it would have been the subtropical North Pole (greenhouse effect researchers found out that the North Pole used to be pretty warm which supports the theory that we need to do something about greenhouse gasses).

If you were in 4th grade, you might be dreaming of 6 Flags or "Kennywood, Sandcastle and the park" whatever that is.

For me, right now, it might be a resort somewhere nice that focuses on yoga, healthy eating, mud and mineral baths, and massages. Vacation doesn't start until the 19th for me, but it's never too early to dream about vacation!

Our personal paradise is... Paradise Valley in Arizona. We get there every year for about 25 years now, and still want to come back!

Some 25 years ago we started coming to the US of A for those big trips. Something like 7000mi in 3 weeks, from Seatle to Phoenix, or a round trip from LA to Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Nevada and back to LA for a visit of Disney Land. We did this with our kids for several years.

Then the kids grew up and went their way, we got older and more tired, and started to come to Phoenix immediatly. And stay there.
In the beginning 3 weeks (won't it be too long?), then 4, 5, and, since my husband retired, 2 month a year. Always when it's real hot, in June, July or August. We love the sun, and the heat, living the rest of the year in a tiny, beautiful but cool and wet country: Luxembourg.

This year we're ariving on June 12 and will stay till August 16. The first few weeks just golfing (my husband) and swimming (me), to get used to the weather. But after that we'll be touring around the state.

Arizona is such a beautiful state, we can't get enough of it. For weeks now I'm planning trips : back to Tubac, to Clifton (Want to visit the Morenci copper mines this time), back to the Canyon the Chelly, visit the Grand Canyon again... Perhaps the North rim now. It's the one I prefer; quieter, and the trip there passes through wonderful landscapes...

I'm sure, at the end of 9 weeks we'll be happy to go home, and very sorry to leave. But always with the near certainty that we'll be back in about 10 months, for as long as we can stand the long planeride...

I agree Thailand, Chiang Mai in the North, The Four Seasons Hotel during Loy Krathong. Unbelievable experience at night, never will forget having a fantastic dinner in the Sala on a stormy night or the full moon during the festival, magical "ballons" filled the air with their glow, fading off into the distant like red glowing stars. Rivers full of offerings floating silently down the Ping river, flowers, coins, locks of loved ones hair, candles.

Well, I'm a city girl, so heaven for me would be a whole week in Hong Kong, New York or London, preferably with generous funding. Walk, shop, eat, sightsee, lather-rinse-repeat. :)
