Is construction at the Aladdin problematic for guests?
My sister is planning a trip to Las Vegas, and heard that construction started at the Aladdin in June of 2006 and will continue through December 2006 and that the lobby and front entrance are closed. Does anyone know about that? Apparently there are some good deals for the Aladdin right now and it would be her top choice, except for the construction.
I'm sure she'd appreciate show recommendations as well - I know one person recommended O at the Bellagio and Barry Manilow is kind of a must-see. What else shouldn't she miss?
By the way I'll be posting a lot more soon. I just have a few more papers to grade and then I'm on vacation!

Thanks, Jim. I hear Celine Dion is a must-see too, but I don't know if I can stomach a whole show of power ballads... Also, I hear there is a new Cirque du Soleil show set to Beatles music - I love Cirque du Soleil, but I'm not sure about this one - O would be my first choice. Any comments?
Posted by: Julie at June 16, 2006 11:43 PMWell, isn't this a strange coincidence!
At this moment I am staying at the Aladdin in Vegas until tomorrow night. And I would say stay away BECAUSE of the construction. It isn't a problem in the sense that the rooms are dirty or anything like that, it's a problem because I know we could have paid the same money and stay somewhere else without construction.
For example, we decided to split our trip over 2 hotels to kind of try out more and we stayed at the Luxor which was great value ($79/night w/$30 meal voucher from expedia) and a great experience.
The only really good thing at the Aladdin is their Buffet, ranked #3 on the strip.
But, speaking of the Bellagio, without a doubt the best 2 hotels on the sttip are the Bellagio and the Venetian. If she can get either of those GO THERE!
One thing to keep in mind though... just because we are staying at the Aladdin doesn't mean we can't go enjoy the Bellagio. It's the opposite! They encourage people to Hotel Hop... so yesterday we visited the Excalibur, Luxor and Mandalay Bay. Before that New York New York and today and tomorrow will be Bellagio and the Venetian.
Also, food wise (which is amazing) you can live off of 3 buffets: Bellagio, Paris and Aladdin.
But there is so many places to eat there is no way you won't find a place you will love and at every price range.
Also, the Blue Man Group is a must as is all of the Cirque de Soleil where one of them is O at the Bellagio. All are amazing!
I could go on, bt then I would use up all your hard drive space.
have fun!

Their buffet brunch used to be a lot better.
They cut down on quality, choise and quantity.
We loved very much the buffet at the Wynn.
They had a large choice, in every kind.
Thanks for the comments - we'll avoid the Aladdin for now. We're thinking of the Mirage or maybe the Luxor. I'd like to stay at the Bellagio (and there are some good deals) but think I would rather spend that extra money on shows this time around. Mirage is our top choice at the moment, but over 6 nights it is ~$250 more than the Luxor - I can't decide if the pool is $250 nicer at the Mirage than the Luxor. Has anyone been to both and care to comment? Thanks again!
Oh, and vegan/vegetarian friendly restaurant suggestions are always welcome too!
Posted by: Julie at June 17, 2006 4:00 PMMe from the Aladdin again,
We just spent a day at the Bellagio, which is connected to Caesar's Palace, which is connected to the Mirage. So, I would say the Mirage is a good idea, especially if the price is that much better. Once you walk over the walkway, which makes hotel hopping easy, you will find you will really enjoy the Bellagio anyway.
We also had the buffet there today and we loved it.
The appetizer bar is very good. Then you have an Italian station, a meat and pork station (which you will probably avoid) an Asian station, a beautiful pasta station with 5 different recipes, a Moroccan station, a japanese station including a sushi bar and other typical japanese dishes, a Mexican station, a fish station and a dessert station with regular desserts and sugar free desserts. There is also a cafe where you can get an amazing Espresso.
That was just the lunch Buffet, inagin ethe dinner or the Gourmet dinner buffet on the weekends!
We stayed at the Luxor and liked it. It is pretty cool how you can get a room in the pyramid and the rooms are spacious and since it's connected to the Mandalay Bay (which is the Hotel in the show Vegas) and Excalibur, it is fun... the only down side is that it is at the end of the strip away from the Bellagio, Aladdin, Paris, Venetian, etc...
Nothing a $10 cab ride can't fix though.
And as far as the Vegan friendly food goes, you should have no problem because if you go to any of the Buffets you will find all kinds of non-meat food.
On our list for tomorrow we are going to try the Paris hotel. It too is supposed to have a good buffet and from the reviews it would probably be vegan friendly too.
Posted by: Anthony at June 17, 2006 4:56 PMME AND MY FRIEND STAY AT THE MOST CHEAP HOTEL ON THE STRIP AND WALK TO THE MOST EXPENSIVE HOTEL AND WE BOTH ENJOY THE SHOWS AND BUFFETS THIS TIME WE WALK FROM ONE END OF THE STRIP AND BACK WE HAD SO MUCH FUN CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK AND DO IT AGAIN.
Posted by: BERNARD at June 17, 2006 10:28 PMMy boyfriend and i just stayed there for a week. We had a great time. Construction wasn't a issue. For the price it was well worth it.
Posted by: Sue at June 17, 2006 11:25 PMThe problem with Aladdin is that I never win there! I win at Luxor and MGM everytime I go to Las Vegas, but Aladdin has tight machines!
Posted by: Russell at June 18, 2006 8:12 AMWe are going in July is the pool open during the construction?
