Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes married in Rome, honeymooning in the Maldives

Tom Cruise got his Italian wedding, although he and Katie Holmes were officially married in LA (the commenter on my previous post wrote about how he did the paperwork in America but the ceremony in Italy so this must be how it's done).

We've got a ton of articles on the Cruise - Holmes wedding. One is cleverly named Marriage Improbable:

AS one might expect from Tom Cruise, it was a production of Hollywood proportions. His wedding to Katie Holmes yesterday in the 15th-century Castle Odescalchi outside Rome had a budget of more than £1.2m, with guest stars including Jennifer Lopez, Jim Carrey, Will Smith and Brooke Shields, a lavish banquet, fireworks and thousands of rose-scented candles.
Then there's the list of celebrities that attended the wedding and a few other details. And here's something that includes a little blurb on their honeymoon in the Maldives.

It is just me or do others see this as a monumental waste of time, effort, and dollars?

First of all, they will likely be divorced in 5 years. Cruise is already a 2-time loser.

Second, why not help the U.S. Economy instead of helping the Italian economy?

Third, just think how many hungry children in the world could be fed with that money.

Just shameful...

Blissfully unaware (?) that Mr. Cruise is VERY litigious when it comes to media malignment of his sexuality, Keith Olberman's "Countdown" reported that Tommy Boy was marrying a B-list actress-wannabe solely for the purpose of allaying reports he is a homosexual. I wouldn't be surprised, but, then, I wouldn't be surprised at *anything* celebrities would do nowdays. I mean, O.J. writing a book and appearing on Fox Television to tell how he would have killed Nicole and Ron "had I actually done so"?! Yeah, sure. And I don't see how *anyone* can doubt that this third marriage for Mr. Cruise will end up in the divorce courts. I mean, it was a Scientology wedding, wasn't it?

Who the ***@@@ cares about Tom Cruise? The more people write about him and actually give a fig the more celebrity he is. Let's focus on real issues, like the number of people (not just Americans) dying in Iraq and Afghanistan, or global warming. Bloody hell!!

I agree with JC...who the @@@@ cares about Tom Curise and Katie Holmes...I am so sick of all of this crap about them...lets get as much into more important things in this world...Im not sure what is the answers but I know it is not the publisity of this wedding that is going to end in a mess anyways...

Tom is an excellant actor and to me sounds like a heck of a nice man. They are entitled to a wedding of their choice, just like any of the rest of us (how many of you decided to not have the wedding of your desire?). Lots of people like myself like to view and read about certain celebrities we find interesting. In addition to other news and what is going on in the world. One can be aware of important issues and also have recreational reading to enjoy. It is called multi tasking and for some, a stress reliever to read something happy (a wedding!). For people who are "sick" of Tom & Kate, then why even post and why did you just read about them?
Congratulations to them, I say. Live well and be happy!

No offense JC but you've come to the wrong blog if you want to focus on "real issues". Well I did touch on the US-Cuba thing and the Israel-Palestine thing because they affect real people's vacation plans. I guess my point is that I don't focus on people dying in Iraq or Afghanistan - just traveling. And traveling to Italy for a wedding is what my wife and I wanted to do (although we weren't planning to rent a castle or invite Will Smith).

Wow what a fairy tale wedding I hope they both have a great time!!!

Everyone has a right to choose thier wedding. Tom and Katie have the resources to do so. More power to them. I am sure they also give for charity. I agree with Sharon and wish them well.
why are we such pessimists--give them a chance--they seem genuinely happy!!

Everyone has the right to choose their own wedding. I agree with that statement.

But Tom and Katie are subjecting us to THEIR wedding by making it such a news event. Why not have a private personal event and not make the world have to participate in the extravagance, the photos, the news stories, etc?

Do people really need to spend over a million dollars for a wedding?

Posted by: M.A. at November 22, 2006 4:37 AM

I totally agree with Sharon. They have mountains of money, that they'll never spend in a lifetime, why not party with it. Lets remember.. a wedding is just a big booze party with wild sex at the end of the night..if he's lucky. I wish them well along with everyone else, for crying out loud there's a child involved. Two time loser or not, we all have the right to persue love as long as we are alive....KEEP LOOKING UNTIL YOU FIND IT...even if its on the "B LIST"

everyone is entitled to there own opinion, whether you agree with it or not. i heard someone refer to tom and katie's wedding as a bigger and more important affair than when charles and diana got married in '81. i think it's sad when we get so wrapped up in these celebrities lives and people wonder why our society is so screwed up. STOP LIVING IN REALITY TV AND START LIVING IN REALITY TO SEE WHATS REALLY GOING ON PEOPLE. WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!!

Posted by: steph at November 22, 2006 8:28 AM

i don't see what the big deal is....so what they got married!??!?!?! big deal.....frankly, i though she'd look better than that with that money he has to spend......

Do you think that maybe Kate and Tom should have gotten married BEFORE they had the baby?

Especially if they are supposedly so much in love.

Why waste the money on a wedding when there are so many more productive things to do with the money.

Reminds me that these high-school educated actors are WAY OVERPAID.
