New travel TV show: Christopher Elliott's What You Get for the Money: Vacations

I recently mentioned the new Disney video on demand and fairly recently we talked about not having enough good travel shows.

Maybe this new travel show will be worth watching. "What You Get for the Money: Vacations" from the Fine Living TV network will be on Saturday at noon. It will feature Christopher Elliott's (he is a travel columnist ombudsman for National Geographic Traveler magazine) tips for cheaper travel.

There will also be giveaways - vacations featured on the show will be awarded to sweepstakes winners.

Hi Chris!

I'm taking my daughter to Barcelona, Spain this December as the other daughter is going to school there. We live in Northern California. I'd like to show them Amsterdam, Germany, France and Italy. Since we're only there for 3 weeks what's the best way to see all of these countries, or should we limit our visits to just 2 sites?

Thanks,

Jeanie

PS....maybe we're related!

We suggest taking trains around western Europe starting in Spain. It would be fun to stay a few days in Barcelona before hitting the rails.

According to Rick Steves, it is easy to find lodging at Europe's train stations. If the location you hopped off at does not look suitable, then hop back on the next train and check out the next stop. There are Information Kiosks at stations including (some) instructions in English.

Living in Northern Calif you could take a practice train trip by taking the Amtrak Zephyr to Reno. The once daily Amtrak train runs from Oakland along the Highway 80 corridor over the Sierra Nevadas and Donner Summit. Spend one night in Reno then head home.
