Amtrak to Glacier Park experience

Here's a letter to the editor arguing for more trains and more government support for trains. To support his argument he talks a little (not many details unfortunately) about the Amtrak ride to and from Glacier Park.

Great Ride on the Empire Builder .. have travelled on it many times by now .. only snag is that at some of the stations (Minot, for instance) many of the passengers wait until the train is actually in the station before they arrive to buy tickets .. which means passengers arriving on the train have to wait for nearly an hour for their baggage to be removed from the platform and given to them ..

I agree there should be more support for the train routes. We also rode the Empire Builder, it was terrific. You have to have experienced it to appreciate how much fun and enjoyable riding the train is.

We waste too many resources on highways that eat up realestate and are gridlocked before they are finished. We would be by far better off with rail service but it will be hard to pry people out of cars. The younger generation consider it as one of the most important things in life.

This is a Cheers! for Southwest Airlines. Just took a trip from LAX to Amarillo, Texas, and was very pleased to find that the leg room in the planes were very much better than on American Airlines or United. This is very important if you are tall or have claustrophobia. Also, the wheelchair accommodation was also excellent.
