Update - Hawaii Superferry dead in the water?
By Mancunian - Well, perhaps you won't be able to travel by sea between the Hawaiian Islands any time soon! The Superferry seems to be having even more problems with suspended service and an uncertain future. My facts were correct when the original article was researched and posted . Apologies to anyone who read the article and who feels they were misinformed. Perhaps its the airlines that are trying to sabotage things....

Oh goodness.....I am very sorry to hear this.
We are planning a trip to the islands next year and this was one of the things that I was planning towards.
We wanted to do some day trips while we were there, to each island but did not want to turn in our car, or pay a car rental twice....so I thought the ferry sounded like a wonderful idea.
I hope they get things worked out. It's a long flight to get there, and home again.....we were really hoping for an alternative to flying between the islands too, while were there. A couple nice boat rides sounded pretty nice. :o)
Posted by: Rhonda Peterson at September 1, 2007 9:20 PMNo doubt the airlines do not want this boat to float. It would cut into their revenue heavely.Moving from island to island is a pain by flying.

Posted by: lestinobambino at September 2, 2007 8:34 PMObviously the airlines are to blame, they have had a monopoly for many decades. They probably paid those surf bums to go bother the boat.
Boats give out less pollution than planes. They usually don't crash. When they sink you can swim. The governor is supporting the ships. So what about the legislature? What did the ancient Hawaiians do? Of course the ocean is the answer. It will increase even local tourism which will improve the economy.I was on Molokai and took a cheap fare once a month to buy groceries in Honolulu. You guys would have so much fun without the airline flights which are expensive, boring and even more dangerous. Remember the stewardess who was blown out of the plane?
