My most expensive vacation since my honeymoon

I now have plane and hotel reservations for my trip to Europe this winter. The rough outline of our trip is:

12/20/2007 - 12/27/2007 in Munich. We go for the Christmas market and the museums. We may not have a Christmas tree in our hotel room, but I'm sure we'll find exchanging Christmas presents in Munich romantic enough to make up for that.

12/27/2007-01/03/2008 in Zurich. Paris seemed too expensive for a city that probably isn't having fireworks. Madeira, Portugal was suggested, but we were in the mood for something more like a city than a resort considering we recently came back from a resort in Punta Cana (Punta Cana and Madeira have some of the same brand resorts). Zurich has culture and fireworks.

1/03/2008 - 1/15/2008 in Madrid. Madrid is on my dream list so I need to spend some time there.

All this is costing some serious money - this will without a doubt be my most expensive vacation since my honeymoon... But I've been working hard, skipping Starbucks, and this is what I want to do with the money I've earned / saved.

This vacations sounds wonderful! My husband and I have family in Germany and it is a wonderful place to spend Christmas. Madrid is on my dream list as well. Have a wondeful time. The memories will be worth the money spent, God Bless.

Sounds just about perfect! Haven't been to Germany in some years, and to Zurich not at all. I think I (if I were planning my vacation) would choose Austria instead. I visited Spain, Madrid, Barcelona, etc. at one time, but I would have to revisit Greece and the islands (my favorite place perhaps of all Europe). In any event, your vacation should be a fantastic one and well worth the money it's going to cost...Enjoy and do take some pics!

I envy you. I wish I could have afforded such a trip 47 years ago when my wife and I married. Still, in the almost 20 years since I retired, we have traveled extensively Europe. There are so many Euopeans these days that speak English that there really is no need to speak anything else. It really does enhance the experience if you can. My wife is Spanish and I speak German. I was able to get by in Holland and my wife in Italy and Portugal. The only place you mentioned that we personally did not enjoy was Zurich. I think Geneva a better choice and Vienna, Austria is a must.

Enjoy yourselves.

You are close to Salzburg. That is in my opinion one of the best places to visit. You can also visit the Neuschanstein Castle .Even if the castle isn't open the area is magnificent. If you have a car, visiting Oberamagau is possible. Enjoy the beer, brats, and good times.

Thank you everyone - I'm sure you're right and it will be worth the money. I haven't been to Europe since 2001 and I really love the architecture and food...
