What do you do when the airline loses your luggage?
This is not from me - but someone needs advice from savvy travelers and hopefully some of the readers here can offer some:
Delta lost my luggage from the plane to the baggage claim or someone just stole my luggage. I was flying back from Boston, connecting through JFK. My girlfriend and I were sitting on the plane, and we see our bags as the last ones sitting on the carts, and we actually saw them go up the ramp and onto the plane, so I know they were put on the plane at JFK. She got her bag here in Lauderdale, but mine is mysteriously missing. I was standing and watching where the bags first come out onto the baggage claim, so I don't think anyone could have taken it. Delta only insures up to $2800, and I know there was much more than that in value in that bag. I'm in an extremely bad mood now.
I was in Boston and Connecticut for my niece's christening, so I had a Hugo Boss suit, my dress shoes, a few dress shirts, plus I was visiting friends as well so I had all of my nice jeans, more shirts for going out, my north face fleece, sneakers, my shaving case (Christmas present from my sister last year and it was coach so not cheap), and my suitcase was even a Travelpro I got on sale at the time for $200, but is worth over $500... that and my girlfriend stuck a bunch of her makeup in my bag. Oh all of my chargers (ipod, phone, camera, etc.) were in there too.
So what do I do now?
And by the way, my brother traveled on Delta from Tulsa to Atlanta last Christmas season. He packed presents and his clothing in a golf club bag. The trip from Tulsa to Atlanta was fine. When he was returning to Tulsa the bag checker said he could not use this type of bag for anything but golf clubs. Delta ended up confiscating the bag and they were supposed to ship it to my brother. My brother had Christmas presents that were given to him in the bag (Digital video camera, and some other things). To this day he has not received his belongings. I will never fly Delta again.

My wife And I were leaving from Chicago to Rome. Our connecting flighy in Ohio was to be late by 3 hours. This ment we would miss our flight to Rome. United changed our flight to American Air Lines. When we arrived at the gate we were told that AA could not ticket us till they had our bags in hand. 20 min. later we were told that our bags were there. We arrived in Rome an no baggage. Our bags arrived 13 days later on the evening before we were to return to Chicago. When our bags did arrive they looked as if they had run over by a truck. The bags had to be replaced..
Posted by: Charles R. Holzner Sr. at October 31, 2007 5:38 PMJust back from Africa for month. Cell phone taken out of checked luggage in LAX when I left on Oct 2. Not discovered until Oct 14 in bush with on phones, electricity,or computer. All other baggage had no trouble with. Trust Africa people and British Air but not American's who work checking luggage in LAX. What to do? Canceled phone and bought new one. I guess the American blacks are different that those who live in Africa--the later are trustworthy.
Posted by: Bob Clem at November 1, 2007 2:29 PMDid you file a claim with the airlines yet? It just isn't Delta-it is all the major airlines who lose bags. As for the passenger who packed expensive X-mas gifts in his golf bag, well, that wasn't very smart. Should have shipped those to your home prior to travelling. Keep in mind the airlines DO NOT actually physically deliver your luggage. A local company does that for them, so if your bags are damaged-call your airline and file a claim. Here's another thing to keep in mind: Don't put important (expensive) necessary items in your checked luggage. Put them in in your carry-on. My family owns a company that delivers luggage for the airlines so I have heard it all. Connecting flights just increase your chances for your bags to get left behind. It has happened to me as well. The more expensive the luggage-the greater the chance someone will take it on you. Is it right? Of course not, but knowing these things might prevent you from losing things of value or sitting on vacation in your travel clothes waiting for your bathing suit and flip flops to be delivered!!!!
Posted by: victoria at November 1, 2007 6:12 PMPS-It says right on your baggage ticket that the airline is not responsible for jewelry or electronics you put in your checked bags.
Posted by: Victoria at November 1, 2007 7:47 PMWow, Bob Clem, that's a pretty rash generalization about African Americans. I didn't realize that all the baggage handlers at LAX were "black thieves". Racist, much???
Posted by: victoria at November 1, 2007 7:52 PMNow you have seen it all!!
I flew from London to Barcelona a few years ago on British Air. When I got there no bags..ugh!!
Fortunately, a FEW MONTHS later the door bell rang and there was a delivery man with my bag. On the side was a big round label. stating "Delta Airlines, Atlanta"
Now how could it get from Europe to Atlanta and from BA to Delta. Better than Hoodini!
Seriously Bob Clem, wtf?
Posted by: Eric at November 2, 2007 5:07 PMCall or go to baggage claim of airport and put in a claim, or report of lost luggage, if you checked bag give your baggage claim number if not give good description of your luggage and the contents.
Also give flight number, time of flight, airline, etc. Make sure you have your name, address and telephone number or email address on your luggage tags. This way some one can contact you when luggage turns up. Be patient.

answer: report it. ask for a manager. complain until they give you free things and find your stuff.
