Has anyone flown WestJet?
Calgary-based WestJet has seen its business expand and its stock go up nicely. Apparently while they expand into new routes they are still able to keep plance relatively full. Does anyone know if that's due to service, price, or both?

Westjet typically stimulates traffic that never existed before they were there, due to the low price of the ticket. You can prove this by checking any Air Canada flight into a location that Westjet doesn't serve. There are various other reasons, but that is definitely a big one.

Their advertising centers around their service - with a motto that says "Why do WestJetters care so much? Because we're also West Jet owners." I really like the concept that this puts in mind...not only one of good service but also of a reliable company whose employees are invested in its success.
It is also true that their prices are terrific. I'll probably be taking a WestJet flight this summer and would be very interested to hear about the experience from anyone who has flown with them.
Posted by: Hannah at December 8, 2007 12:27 PMYes...we have flown several times with WestJet.
They frequently have great pricing on winter charters to the south and the Carribean.
So, in part, our choice is determined by price. However, we also like their philosophy.
The WestJet experience is quite different than other airlines. The flight attendants and pilots are friendly and very informal. There is quite a bit of playful banter among the crew---all meant to entertain the passengers and keep everyone upbeat.
They usually try to engage the passengers in "games" and competitions on the longer flights. I realize this sounds a little silly, but their enthusiasm is pretty infectious and it's a great way to start a vacation.
We were stuck on the runway, de-icing, for almost 3 hours last year and the crew came up with all sorts of activities to help us pass the time and keep everyone in reasonable spirits.
It's not juvenile or unprofessional...I don't mean that...but it can be fun. They still attend to the passengers efficiently and you have the impression that they genuinely do care.
That being said, if your preference is quiet, detached/impersonal service, WestJet might not be your best choice.
We like them.

WestJet is fantastic. Given the choice, I will always choose them over Air Canada. Cathy described it right by saying that the experience is more friendly and informal.
Whenever I fly Air Canada, I end up feeling disappointed after the $5 sandwiches I don't want to buy, and the hurried way the staff give you your coffee and then leave before you can ask for anything else. I have never felt this way with WestJet.
They're definitely the best company I have flown in Canada. :)
