Have you ever shipped luggage instead of checking it when you fly?
A few business are doing pretty well for themselves by delivering luggage for flyers. Apparently people are willing to pay what seems like fairly big money to me in order to avoid the hassle of flying with their luggage:
Rates vary depending on the weight, distance and speed of the delivery. For example, sending a large bag (65 pounds) from New York City to San Francisco with a pickup date in five days would cost $149 through Luggage Forward.Posted by James Trotta at March 29, 2008 11:49 AM | TrackBackTo expand its services among everyday travelers, Luggage Forward last year introduced a seven-day "economy" option that typically costs less than $100 for a bag one way.
As a Virtuoso agent, I sell a lot of client trips that are quite lengthy, such as World Cruises. Shipping the luggage is so much more convenient, and what with all the airlines limiting the amount of checked luggage, it is the only way to get a larger amount (for say, a 4-month World Cruise) to where you need it! Yes, it can be pricey (our average is about $90.00 per bag), but in certain cases, it is the only real option.

Once they discontinued the free service, I found that it was extremely expensive to ship luggage, but very convenient. Luggage Express offered door-to-door service with a 3-day maximum delivery time.
