Are you a real adventurer?
The author of this article on Darwin writes, "For a real adventurer, to travel hopefully is not enough: Some end must be in view."
Perhaps that's why none of my vacations would make much of a book. Anyway, I'm just curious if any of you have an "end in view" when you travel?

I always plan some task to learn on my travels. It doesn't really qualify as "an end in view", but gives extra incentive to the trip. In Spain I studied cork. In France I learned to make a perfect egg-based sauce. In Italy I learned what tomatoes make the best sauce and grew them at home. I try to establish what I want to learn before I go, but sometimes it becomes obvious only upon arrival. Learning new things and different ways of doing things is why we travel.
