Anyone here flown on Sun Country Airlines?

I've got a friend who is flying from New York to Minnesota. Sun Country Airlines had by far the cheapest flights around compared to the "major" airlines. Even though he had never heard of them, he booked the flight. Now he's looking from some reassurance from people who have flown with them.

After asking around, I have heard good things about Sun Country. Their airplanes, 737-800s, are relatively new (late 1990s/early 2000s) and they do a decent job in terms of customer service.

At least that's what I heard. But no investigation is thorough until I post the question here...

Here you can see their route map. Their hub is Minneapolis / St. Paul so if that's where you're going, there's a good chance Sun Country will be the cheapest.

I'm interested in this not only for my friend, but also since one day I plan to head to Minneapolis / St. Paul and the International Wolf Center.

Sun Country is pretty decent - both because of it's great low fares, and yes, the service is great too. One of the nice "things" about this charter airline is that they have their own charter terminal. It is just as nice as the Int'l Airport(MSP) which is right next to it. It has has many similar ammenities, but it is smaller, and easier to get in and out of & get on with your day.
Just my opinion, I've had good luck and have used them many times through the years.

I have flown with Sun Country many times and have found it delightful each and every time. Their customer service is the best. This smaller airline has been struggling against the odds and I just don't understand it. It beats the bigger, major airlines hands down and away! No, they're not perfect but they work very hard to please you and make you feel like they appreciate your business; which is more than I can say about the major airlines.

I have travelled many times between MSP and Dallas in Sun Country airlines. The flights were comfortable. They give warm food (even if it is a sausage burger and cookie!) in the morning and evening flights (not sure about lunch, I never flew at that time). Air hostesses were friendly. An added benefit - Humphry terminal is not crowded and you can escape the crowd in Lindberg terminal.

I have traveled using Sun Airlines several times before both to Jamaica and Mexico, for a charter flight the service and the fact that most of the time you actually get to where your going without delays or cancellations the price is right, as opposed to major airlines.

Sun Country was once owned by Bill LaMacchia who owns Funjet Vacations (Mark Travel Corporation). The airline was used for many of their charter flights in vacation packages. It was a great company. I have not flown it since it was sold because I live in the Milwaukee area. The flights lately seem to be fine. Going in and out of MSP is wonderful. It is one of the best airports in the United States.

Yes, I've flown Sun Country numerous times. I actually prefer flying SC over Northwest out of Minneapolis. Flying out of the HHH terminal is much more pleasant than the larger international terminal, less traffic, less people, easier access...

The planes are newer, comfortable, and I think you still get a hot sandwich (with no extra cost!). I have always been well taken care of and have no complaints.

Your friend (and you, should you choose to fly SC) should not be disappointed.

Having been born and raised in Minneapolis and practiced law there for 30 years I've had occasion to use Sun Country on too many occasions and to too many destinations to remember. It is excellent, and if given the choice I would fly them instead of Northwest which is also headquartered there. Their fares are usually much better, their planes are nice and their staff is superior to most other airlines. A good choice.

Yes. I've flown Sun Country numerous times when they were owned by Funjet Vacations - We flew to Aruba many times. I wish they were still owned or used by travel agencies. The service was great and you were made to feel appreciated. COME BACK SUN COUNTRY - I'VE MISSED YOU...

Yep, I have flown Sun Country. Its not a well known name, but, it was inexpensive and good.

No complaints.

Will fly again, should the necessity arise.

Ummmmm, I think Sun Country is going to go out of business (again). Thier chairman and chief investor is about to be indicted by the FBI on fraud charges and Southwest Airlines recently announced that they will start serving the Twin Cities in March of 2009, flying out of the HHH Terminal. Love Sun Country but no way they survive this. On the other hand, Southwest will give Northwest a legitimate "run for their money" and will definitely help to reduce fairs to/from MSP.
