Shore excursions in Bermuda - and suggestions?

So it's time to choose shore excursions for my August cruise from Boston to Bermuda. It's an NCL cruise and we will be in King's Wharf for 3 days. I am fine with NCL shore excursions or just doing things more on my own.

One thing I am really curious about is something I heard about swimming with dolphins. I'm not really interested, but my wife is. However she only wants to swim with dolphins in very shallow water because...

My wife can't swim and panics in water so all snorkeling and scuba is out. Actually, feel free to make suggestions and I might just leave my wife on the ship or on the beach one day...

My in-laws went to Bermuda many years ago. They mentioned the beautiful pink sand beaches. Are you familiar with cruisecritic.com? You have to sift through a lot of posts on the boards, but there is a lot of valuable info there.

Bermuda is easy to do on your own...if you can ride a scooter, they rent them all over. They will hold two people and you can stop and see everything. They even take the scooter on the ferry so you take a shortcut across the bay.
You can cover the whole Island in two days.

There is something called Dolphin Quest at Kings Wharf, part of the Maritime Museum I believe. Evidently, they have 3 types of adventures with dolphins. She could always sit on the submerged platform to interact with them, if she doesn't swim. Other than shopping (which from what you've said, your wife will like), there's not much else at Kings Wharf. Best to take a bus or taxi to another part of the island for pink sand beaches, etc. Taxis are expensive, but you can always share with your family I would imagine.

We had fun just hopping on and off the buses one day. (My wife didn't dig the scooter idea.) It's a simple place to get around and the public bus routes give you a chance to see a lot of great beaches and some of the amazing homes on the island. The 'crystal caves' was a cool thing to do and they're located right near a great little watering hole called the Swizzle Inn. Fun!

Re your cruise to Bermuda and King's Wharf. There's lots to do. Visit the Royal Naval Dockyard,Bermuda Arts Centre & Crafts Market. Also check out Somerset Village for a look at the world's smallest drawbridge which opens a mere 22 inches to let the mast of a sailboat pass through.

Dine at the Frog and the Onion for a super dinner.
I always ask a cab driver "Where do the people who live here shop and or eat?" They take you to some great places - hey, you might even get invited to their home or to a special event they are hosting. Then, of course, take a cab into Hamilton. Enjoy! I'm also a travel writer and going on the NCL Spirit (same destination) in Sept.
Smooth sailing.

I'm Bermudian, so I know of what I speak. If you plan on using rented scooters for transport while you're here, two things to remember:

1/ Rent a scooter for each person. Scooters are much easier to control without doubling up your weight by carrying someone behind you.

2/ While riding... TAKE YOUR TIME. Especially if the roads are wet. Tourists hurt themselves here all the time by taking a spill. A case of 'road rash' is the last thing you want while on a holiday.

That being said... enjoy yourself! I'm sure you'll find Bermuda to be one of the most beautiful and friendly places you've ever visited.
