Has anyone here never stayed in a Holiday Inn?
I just got a press release from Holiday Inn and the email started off with an interesting stat:
Did you know that every night more than 300,000 people stay at a Holiday Inn? And, that 9 out of 10 travelers have stayed at a Holiday Inn?
At first I laughed and assumed it was an exaggeration. Then I realized that I am one of those 9/10. Even if we're talking about Americans only, 90% is still pretty impressive.
If I remember correctly, my Holiday Inn stay was in Narita or Tokyo on a JAL layover. Sure I'd rather have stayed in one of these fancy Tokyo hotels but I'm sure many of us would end up at Holiday Inn. The question is how many of us? 9 out of 10?

I have been traveling in my job for over 40 years. I have stayed at many, many Holiday Inns in that time. I have seen them in up perioda where they were a fine middle priced hotel and in a severe tailspin into a third class hotel. Right now for the past two or three years they are in a tailspin that is the worst I have ever seen. Most of the HI Express and a lot of the HI are being purchased and operated by Foreign owned companies. They have taked a very good thing and made it cheap but still expensive. I have sworn off Holiday inns of all types until they get their standards back to acceptable.

Posted by: Michelle at September 16, 2009 1:22 AMIf I can find a HI Express at a good rate in whatever area I'm visiting, I go for it. The ones I've stayed in always have comfortale beds, bigger than average rooms, and a good selection at their free breakfasts.

They really work hard on the rooms to make them perfect...... like the pillows and your towels.. But I did have bad experience, that one LA buy magic mountain, everything was wrong but they gave us 20% off one are next visit.... Talk to ya later... DJ or debrajean

They have a really nice one here in San Antonio on the Riverwalk, all amenities, suites, etc. The one I stayed at in Las Cruces, New Mexico, was better than average.
Posted by: Sharon at September 18, 2009 4:37 AMWe have stayed in many of them through the years, with our children, when we traveled. They are reasonably priced, and serve breakfast, which is very helpful with kids.
Now traveling with our grandson, we have stayed in a few of them and have been dissapointed. They are being monopolized with Arabic owners.... and they have poor business ethics. They take the money out and don't put any back in, unless they have to. So they are getting very run down and shabby now.
Hopefully they are sending around quality assurance people to look at their properties, without letting them know, so they are seeing things as they really are.
We have checked into them before, then gone right back down to the desk and checked back out again, asking to have our card credited. They put us at a different property instead.... that was "ok"... but it was a bit run down too.
We have pretty much switched chains now. Were happier with Starwood.
And no, I don't think 9 out of 10 is an exaggeration. They just can't keep 9 out of 10!
