Buddha’s Birthday celebrations at Bongeunsa in Seoul

Last year and the year before, I took some pictures on Buddha’s birthday. Korean Buddhist temples are especially beautiful during this national holiday because of the colorful lanterns. This year I went to Bongeunsa or Bongeun Temple in Seoul where they had a lantern festival as well as the traditional good luck lanterns. Here they are:

These are the lanterns you see every year around this time. Each one was purchased and the buyer writes the names of their family members on a little tag attached to the lantern. This si supposed to bring good luck.

This is a shot from inside the temple. There’s a monk chanting and several people doing their bows and prayers.

This is what I’m talking about when I say there was a lantern festival. This is a Korean traditional art form. I thought this tiger in the grass was really cool.

Here’s some more lantern art, a dog looking at a cat sitting on some barrels.
